Re: Upcoming World Heart Day 2009 to focus on workplace wellness (3)
Thank you for highlighting the important but often ignored issue of work-related stress as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease.
There are many creative ways of addressing stress in the workplace. A few that ProCor has highlighted lately include a UK initiative encouraging workers to knit during their work breaks in order to reduce stress, Chinese efforts to restore the custom of afternoon naps (eliminated by many corporations) as "important stress-coping mechanism that can provide protection against coronary artery disease," and, in Ghana, local governments are organizing walks for workers in order to reduce stress and promote health.
ProCor would like to highlight as many workplace stress-reduction and health promotion activites as possible in the next two weeks leading up to World Heart Day.
Please share interesting initiatives in your own workplace, or programs that you've heard about, with us! Just reply to this message. Thanks!
