Global: CVD voice missing from UN discussions

None of the seven representatives recently appointed to the Civil Society Task Force for the upcoming UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs include a representative from the CVD community, according to the World Heart Federation (WHF). "Given that CVD is the leading cause of all mortality and morbidity worldwide...the absence of a member of the CVD community is neither logical nor representative of the burden of NCDs," according to Professor Sidney Smith, President of the WHF. Members from other NCD communities - such as diabetes, cancer, and tobacco control - are included in the Task Force. The WHF is working with the WHO to hopefully get a representative from the CVD community on the Task Force. (Professor Sydney Smith, email communication to WHF members, 1 April 2011).
