Perspective: What is the key priority for the UN Meeting?
In the winning entry for the Center for Strategic and International Studies blog contest, Nalini Saligram, founder and CEO of Arogya World, believes the key priority of the upcoming UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs is to "ensure it lives up to its promise of being a genuinely transformative moment in world health." Ms. Saligram argues that the UN should use this opportunity to bring everyone together affected by NCDs: not only governments and international organizations, but also communities and individuals all over the world. In doing so, people should decide how they, as individuals, can contribute to a global solution. That would lead to the health community, donors, and industry to embracing the NCD epidemic in a way that can create big, measurable results. However, the success of the Meeting and the success of tackling the NCD epidemic won't occur until everyone feels some personal responsibility towards creating solutions to "our generation's problem".
