Europe: UEFA EURO 2012 to be smoke-free

UEFA has banned the use, sale, and promotion of tobacco products in all stadiums hosting final matches during the European Football Championship, the world's third largest sporting event. "A tobacco-free EURO 2012 makes so much sense," said Zsuzsanna Jakab, WHO regional director for Europe. "Tobacco use kills and causes serious illnesses. This is a great example of what can be done within the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, which is already scoring goals across Europe." The UEFA is also urging host cities (EURO 2012 will be in Ukraine and Poland) to ensure smoke-free public transportation, restaurants, and fan zones. UEFA.
