UK: Healthy vending machine project launched

In an effort to encourage kids to eat healthier snacks during the day, the British Heart Foundation launched a pilot project to install healthy vending machines in 30 schools across the UK. Students will play a key role in how the vending machines are run, and one school will win a prize at the end of the school year. The announcement of the project comes on the heels of a recent study by the British Heart Foundation that found that 29% of kids eat sweets, chocolates, and crisps (potato chips) three or more times a day, and that 40% of kids drink fizzy or energy drinks during the day. In contrast, 88% of kids did not eat the recommended five portions of fruits and vegetables a day. British Heart Foundation.
